The death of Whitney Houston, one of the most celebrated female singers of all time, has shocked the world. It came early for her at age 48 years old on the afternoon of February 11, 2012 when she was found in her hotel room lifeless. There was no foul play involved. Kristen Forster, her publicist, said that the cause of her death is yet to be known but rumor has it that she may have had an overdose of her prescription medication. The mystery surrounding her death has had people guessing about her taking much more than the required dose of medication. The long years of struggle with her drug problem fired these suspicions as authorities seek to keep the details from the public. She was at the peak of her career when she married her husband, Bobby Brown, and also started her substance abuse. This drug problem has deeply affected her career and she slowly went out of the spotlight. She went in and out of rehabilitation clinics to manage her drug obsession but she has been relapsing into it.

This made people more aware of the dangers of mixing alcohol and prescription medications. The coroner is trying to look at all possible causes and not just overdose because the results may take about three months before it may be made available. Her doctors are also being investigated if they were prescribing more than what she needed or not. Medical records from her hospitalizations and consultations will be taken out and may provide answers to questions surrounding her death.

 

Many people who knew her were saddened of her demise and countless of fans have paid tribute to the pop superstar. Her legacy will live on with the songs that she has left the world, alongside her bouts with depression. Prescription medications for anxiety, depression and other mental disorders have their risks and benefits. Antidepressants are often used to treat anxiety and many musicians were found to be using it. Zoloft is even one of the medications that were found to have serious negative impact. Side effects may also be developmental and not only physical. There are even parents that claim to have experienced severe  Zoloft side effects .
